I love blogging for many reasons; it gives me a chance to write – something I love to do and hope to do more of as I grow up! We have had the chance to try out some things we wouldn’t have thought of trying and we have been lucky enough to go places that we probably wouldn’t have done otherwise (although now some of them are on our must visit places). We have tried products that I would never have thought about trying but now wouldn’t be without; (Vanish gold for whites is a part of every white wash I do now!) and have learnt about new companies that we knew nothing about!
As we started the year the Monkey and the Mouse were 4 and 6 and we were battling to get Mouse into school (Which happened exactly a month before her 5th Birthday). It has been a bit of an up and down year in terms of school, in the main good but we have had to have a couple of conversations with them about bullying. Monkey has struggled a little entering the Juniors but is starting to settle a bit (Fingers crossed).
I started the year determined to read more, bake more and have more family days and I think we have managed all – although technically my reading more has been more children’s books but I have enjoyed the time with the kids. Parragon Book Buddy Club has been amazing, we have discovered some fab reads and more. We have moved up to the next band of books and the anticipation of a new book every month is fantastic!
Our favourite days out have included finding out about the Arts in Nottingham, Outdoor fun at Conkers and more recently seeing the Hare and Tortoise at the Nottingham Playhouse! The smiles these days have bought have been amazing and all have added to our life experience and time as a family.
In the summer some very lovely friends invited us to join them on holiday in Spain, it was an amazing time, so much relaxation and fun. Both Monkey and Mouse learnt to swim without armbands and had a whale of a time. It was true family time and memories that we will treasure for ever!
We put on our annual Comic Con in Nottingham and it was amazing, raising £1500 for charity, seeing Geekness everywhere and generally having a fab time. The first time we did it was going to be a one-off, this was the third one and the date has already been announced for next year!
We have prioritised family time even at home; we all love technology but are aware that sometimes it can take over, so a common theme to our relaxing family time has been film nights/afternoons. Both Monkey and the Mouse have become massive fans of My Little Pony and Transformers. We have managed some cinema trips too and the Monkey and Mouse’s top films for the year are The new live action Cinderella and Big Hero 6! The hubby and I even managed some date time to see Ant Man and Star Wars!
Christmas has been fun-filled and we have spent a lot of time with family! I have to say if the presents are anything to go by I can see 2016 being filled with Lego, My Little Pony and more superheros!
I am ending the year with a 5 and 7-year-old, both in school, both growing up far too fast for my liking and both the light of my life. I still have a determination to read more (for me!) and have even more family time and experiences! We are thinking of writing a list of things to do in 2016 to ensure we do at least some of them – what would be on your list?
