POEM – For valentines

A Valentines day for those with a little one!

Breakfast in Bed – for three though not two
A quick cuddle – a group one will do
Getting ready – takes an hour or two
Walk in the park – covered in mud goo

Time for food – a giant big queue
Private dinner – not at all true
Waiting for food – causing some ado
Done but messy – How, nobody knew

Now to go home – to hope they sleep through
At last alone – its the time to woo
A glass of wine – rather a hot brew
Make way to bed – sleep takes over you

Guest – WAHD!

A guest post from Kev Brett – Hubby, Daddy to one (one on the way) and Business Man (Runs Tin Bone Productions)!

Well, where to begin…
Let’s start with what I do for a living, or more correctly, what I will be doing for a living (I hope).  In February ’09 I set up a corporate video production company called Tin Bone Productions.  I’ve been doing video production since ’99 and have worked with various companies making corporate videos and this was the obvious way forward.  Except for one thing.  My son.
My wife had been on maternity leave for a year from her job and the initial hope was for her to quit her job as I became the sole bread winner.  Things didn’t quite work out how we expected them to, but when do they ever?
The plan of action?  Well I would stay at home with Isaac while my wife went to an 8-4 job and video production would have to fit in and around our new arrangement.
Various small video jobs came in now and again and the portfolio started to grow, unfortunately not as quickly as we’d hoped and I soon started to realise that the work would have to take more of a back seat to my role of stay at home dad.
And what a role it is.  Never have I known anything so difficult, time consuming, tiring and yet totally fulfilling.
I’ve seen my son grow and learn so much over the last year and it’s been the most incredible thing I’ve ever done.  As much as I have loved and enjoyed my year of watching and helping my son grow, I look forward to pushing forward with the video production and swapping roles with my wife, who it has to be said has been amazing this last year as ideally she wants to be at home with our child while I’m out working.  Again don’t get me wrong, I’ve enjoyed my full time role and love my son more than anything, but I really need a break and personally feel that women are so much better at this role than us men.
Finally, to every house wife/husband – you have my total respect and admiration!

Kev

PS We put our son in a big boy bed the same day as we went to look at a child care centre and discussed having him in nursery for a few mornings a week – finally realised he was no longer a baby.  Really hit me…bring on the work.

BBB – Night 2/Day 3!

Just a quickie update on the Big Boy Bed situation. First night Little ‘un went down as normal, no problems -we had a bit of a fit at 3.45 am for an hour with crying etc, but after he went down again, he slept till 8.15! We were pleased with how the first night went,  think we got off easy with just an hour of messing!

Anyhoo, last night was night two – and it went brilliantly, again no messing at bed time, just night night and off he went at half seven, then the next we heard from him was seven this morning – so he slept through in his new bed! Well chuffed!

Let’s hope this continues and he doesn’t lure us into thinking all is ok and then start the games!

Signing off to do some jobs before he wakes from his nap!

Bye, Kel x

Big Boy Bed!

Well tonight is the night! Toddler is in his big boy bed for the first time!

We have had a lovely afternoon, been out and about and then back to the house where the three of us (yep little un helped too) built the bed!

He went down as normal, so fingers crossed he will sleep as normal too – all night till 7 – fingers crossed!!

Signing off, Kel

My Saturday!

Well, weekends are supposed to be for resting, but I woke up with that nesting feeling! So the kitchen got a blitzing! I have never felt so satisfied before when cleaning, I would’ve continued around the house but we ‘had’ to go in town, so off we went and bought various items including a mop (I know, how exciting am I that a mop is the only thing I mention? Well I got a bucket too!).

I feel like I’ve walked around the whole of the city, so now I’m trying to relax and watch some TV, and all I can think about is what I can blitz next! The nesting stage has well and truly settled in – does this mean the baby is on it’s way?

On another note we were hoping to move the toddler into a ‘big boy’ bed today, but when dear hubby came to building the thing – the bolts and stuff were all wrong and it couldn’t be done. We have to wait now for the right bolts to arrive – so hopefully by next weekend we’ll have a bed for him and we’ll be attempting the move! Anyone got any tips?

Cold, Cold and Cold!

What a week it’s been – and the running theme?   Coldness!

Let me explain the three colds!

Cold number one: The snow and ice! Now normally I am a lover of all things snow (well maybe not all things – snowballs down the back, I don’t like), but the past few weeks have become a bit of a bore with all the snow, and this week was a week full of questions – Can I get to work? Will others get to work? Can I walk in the street without doing a dance routine trying to stay upright? Will my feet ever warm up!? I never thought I would say it, but I was so glad to see the rain on Friday!

Cold number two: To top things off I went and caught myself a cold, a yucky can’t breathe or eat very well cold, finally recovering, but it makes everything so much harder!

Cold number three: A nice one to finish off on – I decided to join the masses and went to my first ever Ice Hockey game (well you have to living in Nottingham don’t you!), it was AWESOME!
The Nottingham Panthers won 10-3 against the Newcastle Vipers, the atmosphere was fab and I had a great time!
I have to say – it’s a sport I could get in to! It was so chilled out but also so exciting, and what other sport allows you to sing and dance as if you were in your own living room!!

Hello!

So a new blog – where to start?!

I am Kel, a mum of one with a bun in the oven, not long now until I can say mum of two – the next bundle of joy is due the end of March!

I work full time at the minute and also run my little business from home, Piddley Pix is a hobby come business, both my hubby and me love to draw and paint – so decided to sell some of the bits we do!
So apart from being a mum to a very energetic toddler, baking the second one, trying to chill and get some rest, working and doing stuff for Piddley Pix, I have decided to start a blog too – I may need some tips along the way, so don’t hesitate to tell me what you want to hear about, or what you think!

Cheers

Kel
