A simple photo, football boots, that is all they are really, but for me this photo means so much more!
These are Monkey’s first ‘proper studs’; he has been going to football training at school for a while and it was time for him (and us) to commit by getting him some boots.
They are mucky in this photo because it was taken yesterday after he arrived home form training, he was so excited when he got home; as always he’d had a brilliant time, but there was something extra he wanted to tell me!
He had won a medal!
At the end of every session each trainer picks a child to be his ‘player of the week’. This is Monkey’s third ever medal – his first was a ‘player of the week’ one from a very early session for determination and the second came as everyone got one at the end of term.
But, for me the third medal is the most meaningful. This one was for scoring an awesome goal (which Daddy got to see, making it more special) and for always being the first to help others!
To him it means he is still doing well and the right things at training. To me it shows me he is growing in confidence.
He has been low on confidence for a while, we are not a hundred percent sure what knocked him, but something did. He went from a carefree little boy who was happy, who was kind to all and who knew he was bright (without being cocky), to a little boy who didn’t try as hard because he thought he would get it wrong; not just football, it was the same with other things at home and things in school (even maths, which he has always been awesome at).
Since half term something has clicked back into place, every morning the last thing I say is ‘you can do it’ and I think that this medal shows he is starting to believe he can!
