LeapFrog LeapReader Reading and Writing System

The Monkey and The Mouse have had their first Toys R Us Toyologist Mission. They were sent the LeapReader Reading and Writing System from LeapFrog.

The timing is perfect really, Monkey is really getting into his reading and starting to make real progress. Mouse is still Pre-School and really wants to follow in Monkey’s footsteps; she can write her name and some other letters and can read letters on their own but she is always asking for help to ‘read like monkey’.

They were both very excited at the arrival of the LeapReader and even more excited to see that they had a copy of the Monsters University 3D Book with it.IMG_0220

In the box of the Reading System you get the LeapReader pen, a sampler activity book, a writing sheet and the USB lead. The set also includes 1 Audio Book Bundle, 1 music album and 1 trivia challenge.

Mouse had first try and she loved it from the word go! The sampler book is brilliant – it gives you a real taster of what the pen can do. Mouse was jumping from a Disney page to a page about the muscular system and then to a ‘Early Reading Series’ page. IMG_0225

Monkey couldn’t wait to have a go on the Monster’s Inc book, especially as it came with a pair of 3D glasses. He was reading some words and then using the pen to check his reading. Throughout the book there are games to play too and these have kept Monkey entertained for hours!  He loves the 3D glasses and can be often found wearing them around the house!

The pen is easy to set up, (I had a very brief issue to start with because I was on a Mac and needed to update something, but as soon as that was done it was good to go).

You plug the pen into a computer and then visit http://leapfrog.com/connect and follow the instructions. For each book you download the audio package which takes a matter of minutes.  As a mum I found it was easy to set up and I was more than happy with the ease of it’s use for the children. IMG_0343

On first receiving it the two things that crossed my mind was – would it keep the children entertained for long and would it be clear when it was speaking?

I needn’t have worried about either, you can hear how clear the pen is here on this Video and regarding entertaining the children, it has done over several days. They both want to use it and they are really good at turn taking with it. When one is using it the other will sit near by and watch and listen too!

Asking the kids what they think Monkey is quick to answer that he loves the 3D Monsters Inc book and reading it and playing games in it!

Mouse loves the songs ‘best in the whole wide world’, she can be found carrying it around like a microphone singing along!

The set sells at £39.99 at Toys R Us and there are many books you can buy to compliment it (I know this because both Monkey and Mouse have been researching and telling me which they would like next!).  It is great value for money and for me one of the biggest bonuses is not having to buy batteriesToyologist_Blogger badge

This looks great. We had the Tag reader and found it got lots of use whilst Little Mr A was learning to read.

This is something I will be looking into when my son starts reading by himself. I have always loved the look of them & think it will be a great help. Thanks for the review 🙂 x
