Sci Fi Scarborough

This weekend we went off for a family trip of Geekiness! We headed to the coastal town of Scarborough for the first Sci Fi Scarborough conference! Daddy had an exhibitor stand there to sell his awesome comics and artwork and to promote the Nottingham Comic Con!

We thought we would tag along to make a weekend of it!

The journey there was fairly long considering we had both had long days at work and the kids had been at school, but a fast food stop helped and the excitement of going to sleep in bunk beds was enough to keep the kids smiling!

We got there late (well past the kids bedtime) so they went straight off and I started to relax!

Saturday Morning was an early one as we headed to the Spa Complex on the sea front for the Convention. We helped Daddy set up his stall and the Monkey and the Mouse instantly made friends with two girls who were helping their parents do the same. SFS 1There was so much for us to see throughout the days (it was a two day event), loads of people had chosen to dress up (Cosplay) as their favourite character to visit the convention. The stalls included Comics, clothes, Art, Jewellery and even cakes.  There was an awesome Kids section of arts and crafts too!

Unfortunately Monkey came down ill on the Saturday afternoon poorly and we were up most of the night with him having a temperature and generally not being happy. We thought that Sunday may be a write off, we thought that we may have to skip the second day and head home!

Thank fully he was loads better by the morning and he was ready to join in more on the Sunday. He wanted to find the people to have his photo with that he had missed the day before.

We spent quite a lot of time the second day in the kids zone making things, we helped build a Dalek, made superhero arm bands and more. I have to say a special thank you to Emma and her team who were there from Castle Crafts who certainly kept my two little ones busy and cheered them up when they were flagging!

We met some awesome people and bought some awesome bits. Special Mentions for Kate Haywood (who was lovely and had really nice artwork), to Beyond the Bunker (for their Awesome Moon Comic and the fact that he was so good talking to Monkey and the Mouse) and for CG Hatton (did very well for first convention and her kids become firm friends with M and M straight off).

In fact there was loads of awesome folk and you will see me mention more of them on my social media I am sure! We also had a trip to the beach but that will be another post, so will leave you with a few more photos! Well done to the organisers, for a first year it was amazing! SFS 2

I wish we had known about this, my OH and son would have had a great time, it looks fab! So pleased Monkey wasn’t ill on Sunday and you got to enjoy your day.

This sounds awesome. I have a real soft spot for Scarborough and you really bring the convention to life.

Sounds like something a bit different and a fun way to spend the day. I will have to see if we have anything fun like that down our way.

Just wanted to say thank you for helping make it such a brilliant weekend… and made so much easier by the fact that our two minions wanted to hang out with Monkey and Mouse more than they wanted to hang out with us… but then who wants to hang out with mum and dad anyway? That’s so uncool… even when you’re 4 😉 Thank you for being so patient with them… and with us…

The boss has got the convention bug now and is looking forward to making an appearance at the Nottingham Comic Con and hopefully we’ll be bringing the little ones along to reaffirm new friendships 🙂
